December Daily Days 16-20

I am back today with some more of my December Daily. I have days 16-20 for you today. I hope you are enjoying my recap of our December here on my blog. This is helping me to remember what we did for my December Daily album so that I can get it scrapped before my goal date of the end of February. I even found the perfect template kit for it by Katie Pertiet over at Designer Digitals. You can find it here. I like that it has everything clustered in the middle of the page with a bit of white space around the edges, that is has 1-4 photos per page, and it has a nice sized journaling spot. I am not thrilled by the note tabs the journaling spots have, but I can always change that out if I want to. I had a hard time finding just the right template set to do an album in the way that I wanted to do it, but I was glad I finally found this one. Now I just need to save my allowance so I can pick it up. Ok so on with the show…

Day 16 – Today was an online shopping day. I was so excited to find a lot of great on-line deals this year. I am not a big fan of the crowded malls, so if I can get things on-line that saves me a lot of the stress and hassle of going out shopping and that makes me very happy. Not that I don’t enjoy shopping around this time of year, because I love to see the holiday displays and be able to browse around for different items, but I just really hate the crowds that can come with it. Though I must say that this year I was pretty lucky with the low amount of crowds almost every time I did go out. The only place that really had scary amounts of crowds was the new Wegman’s they put in near us. That was crazy crowded, more crowded than any grocery store should be, but since its the only one in New England I guess its to be expected.

These are some of the items I ended up getting:

Got this for Jason, because seriously what computer geek wouldn’t love it!

We sent this to Jason’s brother and his wife. We love Harry and David’s gift sets and this year we decided that instead of struggling to figure out what to get folks, that it would be easier to send them food gifts. We also sent out boxes of grapefruit and oranges to my siblings and my dad, because who doesn’t love the gift of Florida citrus. We also gifted ourselves with a box too.

We got this glowworm for our newest nephew Evan. He was 2 months old at Christmas and since our kids loved theirs as infants we figured he would like it too.

I also got some great deals at Land’s End too. I couldn’t get any pictures of the items, but Jason got some shiny new slippers and a new sleep t-shirt for less than $20. I was pretty happy with my shopping deals this year.

Day 17 -  Today Jason helped me fix the rest of the Christmas lights on our little fake tree. Half of the string of lights on our pre-lit tree went out about 2 days after we plugged it in. We tried replacing all of the bulbs, but it didn’t work. We had to unwind and untie the whole strand of lights from the bottom half of the tree and then put on a new set of lights. It took a couple of hours but once we finished it looked pretty good. I was happy to get it fixed so we could decorate it and have a nice little tree down in our family room.

Day 18 – Today was another cookie making day. I made another batch of my Christmas sugar cookies and tried a couple of new recipes. I made coconut macaroons, peanut butter blossoms, snickerdoodles, and cherry walnut balls. I didn’t end up taking any photos of myself making cookies, but I did find a new favorite cookie. The cherry walnut balls were fantastic and so easy to make. I can tell I am going to be making a lot more of these. They will be great for Valentine’s day too.

Day 19 – Today was just an regular day for us. I didn’t do much in the way of Christmas stuff. Mostly I just did laundry and cleaned the house. Violet dressed up in her Princess finest and found a new place for her babies to hang out.

Day 20 – Today I finally hung up the Christmas stockings. I had to use some command hooks to get them to hang up, but hopefully next year I can get the mantle clips that I want to use for hanging our stockings. This year I am excited that we finally all have matching stockings. Logan, Jason, and I have stockings that were hand crocheted by my great aunt. By the time Jacob came along she had developed Alzheimer’s and was no longer able to crochet or do a lot of the things she used to be able to do. It was sad to see her not being able to do the things she loved doing anymore. I was also sad that we wouldn’t be able to get matching stockings for everyone. Thankfully though, last Christmas as I was searching Etsy to find stockings that at least would be matching for Jacob and Violet, I stumbled on someone who had the same pattern that my aunt used to make the stockings we already had. I was able to get 2 stockings made but they wouldn’t be completed until after last Christmas, so this year was the first Christmas that we would have a complete matching set.

Today we also enjoyed the first of the Florida oranges that we sent to ourselves for Christmas. We had them cut up into slices so we could all make orange smiles.

That is all I have time to post for now, but hopefully I can finish up our Christmas week tomorrow!

Happy New Year!

Happy New Year to my blog readers. December and the first half of January has  gotten away from me. I guess time flies when you are having fun. I haven’t forgotten about finishing my December Daily, so this coming week my goal here is to finish that. I think I am on day 15 so I will start with that.

Day 15 – Today I took a little time to take a few close up photos of our tree ornaments. In case you haven’t figured it out so far, we are big Disney fans here in our house, so we have a lot of Disney ornaments for our tree. This year I was so excited to have quadrupled my collection of ornaments. My Step-Mother’s sister-in-law happened upon a huge bag of Disney ornaments at a tag sale this fall and thought our family would like them.  She got them all for $5. I was so glad that she thought of us.

This next ornament photo showcases my favorite ornament of all. It is a porcelain angel my aunt gave to me the Christmas after my mom passed away. It is so hard for me to hang it every year, but as I do it reminds me that my mom is an angel watching over me and my family. This Christmas I seemed to miss her presence even more than I usually do.

Its getting late here in New England, and I have to get up early to go to my Brother’s for his birthday brunch tomorrow, so I will sign off for now with the hope that I can post again tomorrow.

Merry Christmas!

Merry Christmas!

December Daily Days 13-14

Once again I am back to update my December Daily!

Day 13 – On the 13th of December my Step-Mother was kind enough to offer to come watch the kids for the day, so that we could go and finish our Christmas shopping for the kids. We had a great time out at the mall, and then went to John Harvard’s for dinner. It was so nice to get out for a day by ourselves together.

Jason was so excited to have Arby’s for lunch at the mall.

I stopped for a cheesy picture with the mall’s Santa display.

At John Harvard’s we got butternut squash ravioli, chicken pot pie and a caramel bread pudding. It was such a good meal!

Day 14 – Today we made our first batch of Christmas cookies and went to Boo’s holiday concert at school. Making Christmas cookies is something I have done since I was little so I am glad that my kids love making them too.

Peachy and I went to go see Boo’s concert later in the afternoon. His class was great and had such a good time putting on their show! Violet did great for the first part of the show but had a meltdown partway through. Jacob was so excited to get to come home a little early with us. He has been wanting to have a parent pickup ever since school started.

That is all I have for tonight, but maybe tomorrow I can finish and get caught up!

December Daily Days 6-12

So due to a billing error we had to clear up, my blog has been offline for a bit, but now that it is back up I can update my December daily. So this post will mostly just be a barrage of photos! I am glad I kept track of what we have done each day so far in Dec. so I can post it.

Day 6 – Though we read Peachy a story or two every night before bed, once December hits we like to pull out all of our winter and Christmas books to read to the kids. Biscuit’s Christmas and Biscuit’s Snowy Day are particular favorites this year.

Day 7 – Starbucks! We all love it when the red cups come out at Starbucks. It means that some of our favorite drinks have arrived for the holiday season. I love the peppermint hot cocoa and Jason loves his eggnog latte.

Day 8 – Christmas playlist. At the beginning of December I work diligently for days to come up with my Christmas playlist for my mp3 player or this year my iPhone. I have to admit I am a little obsessed with my Christmas music. I used to have a collection of over 400 songs, but due to a lack of backups and a hard drive fail last year just before Christmas, I lost a lot of what I had. I have been able to get back a portion of what I had from some of the cds I have and from itunes, but I don’t think my collection will be the same as it was before for a long time. Every year though I find new songs that have never registered on my radar that I can add to the list. I think I have at least 140 different songs so far. I also have some repeats of the same song by different artists that I deem to be the best versions of each song. This year a few of the new songs I have added to my collection are Twinkle, Twinkle Little Me by the Supremes, Holly and the Ivy by Tyler Barham, and Christmas Wrapping by the Waitresses. My all time favorite is Holly Jolly Christmas by Burl Ives. My favorite overall artist is Perry Como. I will listen to anything by him!

Day 9 – Today Jason worked from home and we were planning to go do a little shopping and go get our Christmas tree while the boys were at school. We got out to Michael’s, Carter’s and Best Buy for our shopping, but had to make a detour before getting our tree. Peachy thought it would be a great idea to climb out of the Best Buy carriage all by herself once we got to the car, but her foot got caught and she ended up falling head first onto the pavement. We drove her very quickly to the pediatrician, since she fell from 2.5-3 feet up and immediately had a huge bump and abrasion on her forehead. She checked out ok , thankfully, and calmed down once our new doctor gave her a little ladybug book. She gave us a big scare though and had a huge goose egg to boot, but we were relieved that she was going to be fine. After we got her home and bandaged up her abrasion, we decided to go out and get our tree. We had looked around town a bit to see who had the best prices and everyone was over $50 for little dinky trees, which I thought was ridiculous. Our neighbor told us that this little fish and fruit and veggie stand had trees just up into Worcester, so we decided to check them out. Not only did we get an awesome 6 foot tree but it was also only $40. Quite the bargain compared to every place we went to in town. We got the tree home, up in its stand, and the lights and garland up before it got too late, but decided to hold off on decorating it for another night. Well except for the 2 ornaments that Boo insisted we put on that night!

Day 10 – Today we went to go visit our good friends at their house on the Cape. We had a great seafood fettuccine dinner and got to eat some tasty cookies that their son Tyler made almost all by himself from scratch. He is 11, so it was great to see him wanting to try and make something himself! Unfortunately we didn’t take any pictures!

Day 11 – Today the kids and I decorated the Christmas tree. Is is so much fun to see them all really get into it this year. Even my little Peachy. She especially loved putting on the ball ornaments and candy canes. They did a great job and I only had to adjust a few of the ornaments that were too close together or not quite far enough on the branches. We even decided to give a nod to my grandfather and our 50s house and put a ton of tinsel on our tree. I love how it looks so sparkly especially when the lights are off.

Day 12 -  For the last few years, except for last year, I have made scrapbook calendars for my Step-Mother. When she didn’t get one last year she was really disappointed. I had put a lot of time into making a photobook of our trip to Disney for her and my Dad, and found I hadn’t any extra time to make a calendar. So this year I knew I had to make one for her. So today I used a pre-made calendar kit I got from one of the digital scrapbooking stores I frequent, and it was super easy and stress-free to put one together. Then I got it printed from Shutterfly. I am really happy with how it turned out! I am just going to post the cover just in case she actually reads my blog!

Well that is all I can manage for tonight. Hopefully tomorrow I can post the next few days of December! Let me know if you are enjoying my posts!

December Daily – Day 5

On the 5th day of December we did one of our favorite December activities, watch Christmas movies. We made some popcorn, got snuggled up under a blanket  and caught the tail end of A Charlie Brown Christmas and saw the new Prep and Landing. The kids asked who charlie brown was….I think we need to watch the full show and educate the kids on Charlie, Snoopy and the gang!
